This weekend you’ll have a chance to get Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 DLC for free on PS4. The game’s developer activision has announced that playstation 4 users will be able to try out the dlc entitled awakening. The free trial weekend begins April 1, at 10:00 am PDT and lasts through Monday April 4, 10:00 am PDT. The trial is open to all players of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 and will let players see all Awakenings has to offer. And no, it isn’t an April Fool’s joke either!
Details on the Free DLC
Awakenings includes Der Eisendrache, a “mind-bending zombies experience,” plus four new multiplayer maps. Included maps are the following: Gauntlet, Splash, Rise and Skyjacked, a retool of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 map.
How to Access the DLC
If you’ve already updated with the newest version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 then you can access the DLC immediately. You’ll just select Der Eisendrache under the Zombies menu, and can access the new multiplayer maps by going into the Awakenings playlist or the Multiplayer menu. Private play will require you to purchase the DLC.
The cherry on top is that Treyarch will also be activating Double XP and Double Weapon XP for the length of the trial as well as part of the free Awakening multiplayer weekend. If you already have the Awakenings DLC for Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 then you’ll be glad to hear that the Eclipse DLC Map Pack arrives for PS4 users on April 19. Eclipse will include four new multiplayer maps with a retool on the classic map, Banzai, from Call of Duty: World at War. The DLC pack will also include a new chapter for the Zombies saga with Zetsubou No Shima.
The four maps’ details are listed below:
Spire: This map is set in a futuristic airport terminal in the clouds, and you need to be careful that you don’t end up falling back into the stratosphere.
Rift: Rift is set at a futuristic military complex and you’ll use the unique core movements to go through the suspended rail system, outsmarting your attackers and enemies.
Knockout: This Asian-inspired DLC map features a Shaolin Temple and has a Kung Fu tournament. Activision promises it will be bloody.
Verge: A re-imagining of the Banzai map, this map features multi-player combat in a post-apocalyptic future where you can take control of the bridge, fortresses, tunnel systems and more. This is a medium-sized map where you can run up on walls and more.
If you aren’t on a PS4, then you won’t be able to enjoy Eclipse just yet. Activision says it’s just for PS4 players at this time. Chances are the other platforms will get it a month or two from now. The Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 Eclipse DLC Map Pack can be purchased for $50 with the Season Pass, and individually for $15.
