The wait is nearly over for fans who want to get their hands on The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth, as the game makes it way to PS4 next week, Playstation Vue reports. The somewhat controversial game is an add-on to 2014 hit game The Binding of Issac: Rebirth, and will add over 100 hours of gameplay for players to enjoy with new levels, new music, new items and much more. The Binding of Issac is a Biblically-inspired game where Issac flees to the basement after his mother receives a message that she must kill Isaac. There in the basement, Isaac encounters a series of monsters. The game originally came out in 2011 as just The Binding of Issac, but was remade with game developer Nicalis in a title that became The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth, released in 2014. The PC edition was released in October 2015, so the wait for the PS4 port has been agony for some anxious fans.
The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth adds a number of new things to the gameplay experience. First is the all-new game mode, Greed. During Greed, you fight off waves of random enemies, and the waves stack on top of one another. There’s only way out and that’s you have to press the “stop” button, die or hit wave 8. The game rewards you with a cash bonus that is higher with each wave you string together, and if you emerge without demand, you get another bonus.
Besides the new Greed game mode, the add-on packs plenty else into the game. You can expect to see a new final area and final boss for the main game title. You can also compete in Daily Runs, and see over 1,000 new room designs. You also can enjoy a new playable character, Lilith, aka the mother of demons. Four alternate new chapters in the game have also been added, as have eight new bosses, 25 new enemies and 120 new items. Each new chapter comes with its own enemy type and visual theme. The soundtrack now features a new alternate version, and the game has been updated to include a revamped weapon system and 10 new challenges. Playing the game will let you discover everything else that’s new and exciting about The Binding of Issac: Afterbirth.
Here’s a look at three of the new items you’ll find in the game.
Diplopia – This one-use item lets you double your items and pickups.
The Friend Ball – You can use this to trap any non-boss enemy in a ball, then release them to be your ally as you fight.
Dead Eye – You’ll have raised damage with this item with each hit, and your tears will be red glowing balls! Seriously.
The Binding of Issac will be available for $10.99 for the PS4 on May 10. PC fans who haven’t yet got their hands on the title can pick it up at Steam for 25% off, at only $8.24. You can also get the bundle of both games for $18.13 on Steam. The game is currently available for Windows and Mac players.
