Faith is back. Her story began in the 2008 video game Mirror’s Edge, and if you want to jump back into that game environment, you’re in luck. EA Games just announced a Closed Beta for the game’s sequel, Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst. The company updated the official Mirror’s Edge website with information on the upcoming game, including the new trailer.
We’ve been dying to show you more from Mirror’s Edge™ Catalyst – and now’s the time. With this new trailer you will get to know Faith better through glimpses of her amazing journey – from carefree thrill-seeker to true heroine. You’ll also get a taste of what you’ll experience as a Runner: unique free running and combat in the stunning yet perilous city of Glass.
This is just the beginning. In the upcoming months, you’ll learn more about Faith’s story, the world around her, and the amazing gameplay of Mirror’s Edge Catalyst.
The beta for Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst will be available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Origin for PC. Those who want to participate in the beta are urged to visit the beta’s landing page. You’ll need to have an EA Games account, and if not, you’ll have the opportunity to create one as you sign up for the beta. Those who are awarded access in the closed beta will be notified soon, though, EA Games hasn’t specified an exact date.
Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst will be available for sale on May 24, 2016. The demo premiered at E3 to mixed reviews, but anticipation is high for the beta. The game has been in development since 2013, and is a prequel to the original 2008 release. Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst has reportedly expanded the gameplay and lets players delve more into the story of Faith.
- First-Person Action – Get up close with your enemies. Use your freedom of movement and martial arts combat in conjunction with the environment to experience fluid first-person action unlike any other.
- Explore the City of Glass – Roam the beautiful, high-tech city at your own pace, and unlock its many different districts. Run free and explore every corner from the highest, glass made skyscrapers to the hidden underground tunnels.
- Witness the Rise of Faith – Brought up on her own on the margin of the totalitarian society, Faith found refuge amongst an outsider group called the Runners. Learn about her origin story, and take part in her journey as she stands up against oppression and becomes the catalyst that can change the City of Glass forever.
Mirror’s Edge was light on backstory, so the new prequel-of-sorts seems like it will definitely fill in the holes present in Faith’s story in the first game. From wha we can glean from the trailer, Faith will be preparing to go up against an emery named Gabriel Kruger. Scenes of emotional moments in the trailer definitely have me intrigued.
Players who want to play Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst’s beta better sign up soon because as with most closed betas, space is probably limited.
